SCIC held its 13th Annual General Meeting (AGM) as an electronic session on 25 August 2020. The meeting was chaired by SCIC Chairman, Mr Wim Roels who addressed the challenges and impact of the pandemic situation to the chemical industry and workforce in 2020 in his opening remarks. He further shared some of SCIC’s efforts in the past few months in supporting and addressing members’ needs and issues to enable continuation of business operations in a safe environment. Specific taskforce and workgroups have been commissioned to look into resolving these unprecedented challenges from the COVID-19 pandemic, which included:
- Formation of SCIC Taskforce on Cross-Border Supply Chain Goods Movement in Mar 2020. EDB was engaged to collaboratively address industry-wide issues and concerns encountered at the border and solutions to facilitate cross-border supply chain goods movement in view of lockdown measures by countries.
- Proactive engagements with EDB on issues related to decanted foreign workers as well as the improvement to dormitories living conditions .
- Formation of SCIC-ASPRI Cohorting Working Committee in July 2020 which looks into continuously helping members to address and meet the safe restart criteria for the Energy & Chemicals sector.
The summary on the key activities and accomplishments of SCIC in 2019 were also highlighted during the session before the meeting proceeded with the AGM proper.
