The Code of practice for bulk liquid oxygen storage installations on user premises, Singapore Standard SS 597, was first published in 1985 as CP 34 and subsequently revised in 2014. In the 2020 revision, the scope of SS 597 was expanded to include oxygen tank capacity ranging from 450 litres (e.g. mini bulk or microbulk tanks) to 100,000 litres.
SS 597 was developed to provide guidance for persons involved in the design, installation, operation and maintenance of bulk liquid oxygen storage systems.
With more than 80 attendees at the webinar on 28 Jan 2021, the key changes to SS 597 was summarised and include an additional requirement for outdoor installations and an illustration to provide further guidance to gas suppliers and users. Insights on important considerations, such as safety precautions and pre-installations of bulk liquid oxygen storage at user premises was also shared by experts from the industry.
Benefits of implementing SS 597:2020 was also shared during the webinar:
- Ensures that work is completed in accordance with the current best practices
- Simplifies and expedites training and onboarding
- Improves quality and customer satisfaction
- Reduces defects, waste and cost
