An initiative of the SCIC Advanced Manufacturing (SAM) Committee
As part of the initiative by the SCIC Advanced Manufacturing Committee (SAM), a series of webinar sharing on “Advanced Manufacturing” for the Chemical Industry has been lined up with the objective of generating greater interest and awareness among members companies through sharing and learning from one another.
The inaugural webinar sharing was organised on 26 August 2020 with the support of JTC and Singapore Polytechnic (SP). Well-attended by more than 60 participants, the session provided participants with valuable insights on the “Why’s” and “How’s” of technology in transitioning their business operations towards Industry 4.0.
The highlights on the key takeaway by the participants in this sharing session included:
- Insights sharing by Mr Lim Keng Yang of Chevron Oronite on the transformation of the manufacturing process through digitalisation and how it has brought about new opportunities, new levels of efficiency and cost reduction to the industry.
- Case studies sharing by Mr Tom Madilao of Chevron Singapore and Mr Chan Chian Yeow of Croda Singapore on the use of technologies in helping to cope with COVID-19 pandemic situation.
- Sharing by Mr Norazmi Ayob of Chevron Singapore on their experience in initiating the first step in their transformation journey through “design thinking” methodology. The training partnership opportunity with the Singapore Polytechnic has allowed their employees to equip with the skillset to bring them through the process and be able to derive on the identification of their needs statement and brainstorm innovations and relevant technological solutions.
- Mr Koh Hong Wee, Centre Director of Energy & Chemicals Training Centre (ECTC), Singapore Polytechnic also shared about the ECTC which replicated the work environment of the chemical plant, thus providing students with the opportunity to have a virtual hands-on experience in a “live” plant.
The sharing session organised has been informative and beneficial to members in their level of awareness on adoption of advance manufacturing technologies. Members may keep a lookout on the upcoming sharing sessions for different focus topics:
