The Singapore Chemical Industry Council (SCIC), in collaboration with e2i, successfully organised the Seminar on Managing Ageing Process Plants in the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Era on 26 August 2026 at the Devan Nair Institute for Employment and Employability (e2i). The seminar brought together 60 participants from 22 companies, reflecting strong industry interest in addressing the challenges of ageing process plants through digital innovation.
Under the theme “Driving Reliability, Safety and Sustainability Through Digital Innovation,” the seminar explored practical approaches to managing ageing assets, improving reliability and process safety, and preparing the workforce for the adoption of AI and digital technologies.
Participants gained insights from industry experts and practitioners on topics including ageing mechanisms, IIoT and predictive maintenance, AI deployment in brownfield plants, digital twins, asset integrity, workforce transformation and AI-ready leadership. Real-world examples from chemical manufacturing were also shared, highlighting practical applications and considerations for AI adoption in existing facilities.
The programme also featured an MOU Photo-Taking Ceremony between SCIC and e2i, followed by a panel discussion that gave participants an opportunity to exchange views on the practical challenges and opportunities of managing ageing plants in an increasingly digital and AI-enabled environment.
Overall, the seminar provided a valuable platform for the industry to share experiences, explore practical digital solutions and discuss how technology and workforce development can support the safe, reliable and sustainable operation of ageing process plants.
