SCIC conducted its annual sustainability conference on 29th July this year, carrying the theme “Towards Net Zero Emission”. Following SCIC’s inaugural sustainability conference in 2019 which focused on “Waste Management and a Circular Economy”, this year marks the second run of the event. 125 participants comprising stakeholders from various organisations took part in the conference, with the objective to enhance the knowledge to support their decarbonisation efforts and initiatives, aligning to the nation’s goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.

The programme commenced with welcoming remarks from Mr Lim Keng Yang, the Vice Chairman of SCIC. The first segment of the event in the morning covered speakers who discussed the future energy landscape of the nation including government directives, mapping of technology and looking into rising opportunities to sustain the Energy and Chemical (E&C) sector. The segment ended with a panel discussion revolving around the questions posed by the audience to the speakers.

The second segment in the afternoon delved into the digital platform’s role in achieving sustainability goals, during which speakers shared on Carbon Capture and Utilisation Translation Testbed (CCUT) and other digital developments. The sharing on CCUT was followed by presentation on sustainability journey of companies, which included exploration of alternative energy sources and collaboration with research institutes and companies. Speakers were then invited to present on the management of Greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory and projects for improved resource efficiency. The conference was wrapped up with another panel discussion consisting of a Q & A session.

Aside from the presentations, booths were setup by various organisations in the conference hall to facilitate interaction with participants, providing a platform for learning and fostering new partnerships.
