With the launch of the Energy & Chemicals Industry Transformation Map (ITM) in 2017, it has paved the way for industrial 4.0 evolution which encompasses the next wave of innovative advanced manufacturing technologies including digitization and implementation of Internet of Things (IOTs).
A Sharing Session-Gearing up for Industry 4.0 was organised on 30 August 2019. Attended by 20 participants, the session commenced with an address by the SCIC Advanced Manufacturing Chairman Mr Tom Malidao from Chevron Oronite. Subsequently, Ms Jessy Yau, the Centre Director of Energy Chemical Training Centre (ECTC), shared an overview on “Ecosystem of Chemical Industry 4.0” and how companies can benefit from embracing digitisation in their operations. Lastly, Mr Sivarajan Sankaran, IoT & Projects Lead of Chevron Oronite shared on “Digital Organizational Capability and Fluency” and their experience as they embark on their own transformation journey. The session ended with a walk-through of the Singapore Polytechnic’s newly launched Energy Chemical Training Centre (ECTC) - Singapore’s only one-stop training and solution centre for the Energy and Chemicals sector where elements of IOTs have been incorporated.
The sharing session is part of the industry capacity building efforts by the SCIC Advanced Manufacturing (SAM) Committee. In the upcoming months of 2019, members can look forward to the following events that will help build awareness and capability in the aspect of I4.0:
- SCIC Gearing up Industry 4.0 – Design Thinking for Users – (27 September 2019)
Design Thinking workshop based on the Energy & Chemical (E&C) industry context that will instil participants with the concepts so to apply user empathy that leads to identification of needs statement and solutions for organisational transformation towards Industry 4.0
- SCIC Sharing Forum -- Gearing up Industry 4.0 – (24 October 2019)
In conjunction with this year ITAP, SCIC have organised this sharing forum as part of the building capacity to prepare the industry towards Industry 4.0. This year, we have invited speakers from various sector within the chemical industry to share on their transformation journey.
Moving forward, the committee will continue its efforts in providing such industry platforms on I4.0 for members to come together in addressing the issues faced by the industry and to look for potential leverages, collaboration and support to the industry that will facilitate a more efficient and effective journey.
