The inaugural SCIC Safety Case Refresher Workshop was successfully conducted on 2 October 2025, bringing together 24 participants from the industry. The session was led by Er Chan Keng Yong from AcuTech, with strong support from members of the Technical and Process Safety Committee, as well as presenters from the Major Hazard Department (MHD).
The one-day workshop focused on reinforcing key elements of Safety Case, with particular emphasis on areas that MHD may review during annual on-site verifications (OSV) and the five-yearly Safety Case revision. Participants benefited from practical industry examples and interactive group exercises, which helped to translate regulatory expectations into actionable practices.
Key topics covered during the workshop included the concept of ‘demonstration’ and MHD’s expectations, identification of safety-critical utilities and equipment under process safety, establishment of alarm and interlock set points for ECI, overview of material selection and mechanical integrity programmes, and methodologies for demonstrating ALARP.
The session concluded with a closing address by Ms Jaime Lim, Director of the Major Hazard Department. Feedback from participants was positive, reflecting the relevance and practical value of the workshop. SCIC will be conducting the next Safety Case Refresher Workshop on 7 April 2026.
