What’s New and Improved in the Responsible Care Self‑Evaluation Form
On 7 April 2026, a dedicated webinar was held to walk Responsible Care signatories through the latest updates to the Responsible Care Self‑Evaluation Form, with a spotlight on changes to the Security Code and Distribution Code.
Led by a panel of judges from both codes, the session unpacked what’s new, why it matters, and how companies should prepare for the upcoming submission cycle.
Stronger Focus on Cybersecurity in the Security Code
One of the most significant updates comes under the Security Code, where cybersecurity has formally entered the Responsible Care framework. Recognising the growing risks posed by cyber threats, three new management practices (MP8.5 to MP8.7) have been introduced. These additions aim to strengthen organisational readiness, protect digital systems, and reinforce resilience across chemical operations.
To ease the transition, the revised Security Code form will be piloted in the next submission cycle, and importantly, the new cybersecurity elements will not count toward award evaluations this year. This gives companies valuable time to understand and integrate the new expectations.
Streamlined and Clarified Distribution Code
Updates to the Distribution Code focus on clarity and consistency. Several editorial improvements were made to remove duplication and simplify the assessment process. As part of this clean‑up:
- MP6.1 has been amended
- MP6.6 was removed due to overlap
In addition, two new management practices (MP8.2 and MP8.3) were introduced, reflecting ongoing efforts to raise standards in distribution safety and operations.
What Signatories Should Do Next
Responsible Care signatories are encouraged to review the updated Self‑Evaluation Forms early and familiarise themselves with the changes ahead of the next submission cycle. Webinar materials are available for reference, and code teams remain on hand to support any follow‑up questions.
Together, these updates signal a clear direction: strengthening security, improving clarity, and future‑proofing Responsible Care for the challenges ahead.
