SCIC Learning & Sharing session: Cooling Water System in Chemical Industries

An initiative by the SCIC Process & Engineering (P&E) committee, the committee continued the efforts in building the capability and capacity of the industry and organised the virtual SCIC Learning & Sharing session: Cooling Water System in Chemical Industries on 17 August 2022, 2pm to 4.00pm which was attended by 40 participants.

The cooling water system is important in the petrochemical industry for cooling down the process temperature. Therefore, various problems such as corrosion, scaling and biological fouling are anticipated to occur in the heat exchanger tubes with the thermal load when the system is operated without proper chemicals for the water treatment. These problems would reduce the efficiency of the system and shorten the operational life of the equipment.

This forum has shared with the participants on the best practices for the operation of an open cooling water system.

On behalf of SCIC, the P&E committee would like to thank the speakers for their insightful sharing during the session.
