SCIC-Joint Agencies Dialogue Session 2019

Dialogue session with the government authorities is one of the events that SCIC organises for its members to stay informed on the key updates in the regulatory developments for the chemical industry.

Bringing together the key regulators of MOM, NEA and SCDF, SCIC organised its joint agencies dialogue on 20 Nov 2019. The discussion of the session covered on topics of sharing focused in the following three areas:

“Vision Zero Movement” – Process Safety in the Chemical Industry

  • SCDF’s report on the fire incidents and highlights of trends and learnings for the chemical industry
  • Research and Innovation in Safety Consortium: Enhancing process safety capability in Singapore through a multi-stakeholder’s approach shared by A*STAR.

2019 Year Towards Zero Waste – what it means to the Chemical Industry?

  • NEA’s updates on achieving towards a more sustainable packaging waste management in Singapore.
  • NEA’s updates on the upcoming regulations in addressing the transboundary movement of plastic waste under Basel Convention.
  • SCIC’s sharing from an industry’s perspective on the chemicals and waste management for a sustainable development.

Key regulatory updates relevant to Chemical Industry

  • SCDF’s updates on the progress of industry sensor grid feasibility study
  • MOM’s sharing on the Corporate Level Agreement (CLA): An extension of statutory examination period for pressure vessels.

The Q&A segment was an engaging session over an-hour of duration where members and the senior officials of agencies exchanged ideas, insights, comments and feedback.
