We are pleased to have presented Mr Wim Roels the SCIC Distinguished Leadership Award for his dedicated support and contributions to SCIC at the recent SCIC Responsible Care Awards Presentation Ceremony on 5 Mar 2021.
Mr Wim Roels is the CEO of Borouge Pte Ltd. He joined SCIC in 2016 as a Board Member before assuming the position of Chairman in 2018.
During his tenure as a Board Member and Chairman, his involvement in driving various industry initiatives and advocacy issues have been exemplary to the overall development of SCIC. These were evident in his involvements in dialogues and discussions with the various statutory agencies as well as his provision of assistance and guidance to the secretariat office.
Wim took the lead in the then newly formed SCIC Industry Sustainability Committee in 2017 which proactively explored driving industry initiatives and programmes to address sustainability related concerns. He shared his knowledge to help create greater awareness on plastic waste management at various SCIC events including the launch of SCIC Clear Shores Clean Water champaign and Joint Agencies dialogue session in 2019. He also led the Environment and Resources Standards Committee (ERSC) as the Chairman following the appointment of the Standards Development Organisation (SDO)@SCIC with the management of this portfolio in April 2020. ERSC will complement industry initiatives through SCIC towards addressing issues on climate change including energy efficiency, carbon emission, greenhouse gases emission and waste management. Having served the steering committee as the Chairman from 2018 to 2020, Wim played a key leadership role in guiding the SDO@SCIC.
Wim represented SCIC in the Workplace Safety & Health Council (Chemical Industry) Committee since 2018 as Deputy Chairman and subsequently as Chairman in 2020. His also contributed thought leadership on advocating workplace safety and health to fellow peers of the chemical industry at various platforms, including the Global Summit on Process Safety (GSPS) in 2019 as a keynote speaker. He is also represented in the National Environment Agency (NEA)’s Energy Efficiency National Partnership (EENP) Steering Committee as the Chairman in shaping the EENP programme in driving companies to set energy efficiency goals and implement energy productivity improvement projects.
