Playing Our Part in Reducing Plastic Waste: Clear Shores, Clean Waters Campaign

SCIC began holding the annual “Clear Shores, Clean Waters” beach clean-up campaign on April 2022. Aiming to reduce trash on the shores and raise awareness on plastic waste management by inviting companies to hold beach clean-ups, the campaign is on its second run this year since its initial launch in 2019, after which it was on hiatus due to Covid restrictions.

This year, “Clear Shores, Clean Waters” calls for a movement in which companies are invited to hold beach clean-ups individually along the shores of Singapore. Under this movement, SCIC held its beach clean-up in June, together with more than 20 of its members and internal staff.

The clean-up collected around 30 kgs of general waste and 32 kgs of plastic waste, totalling 62 kgs. Various items such as logs and wooden boxes were cleared in the process of the clean-up.

SCIC is appreciative of companies that have come forward to propel the efforts for the beach clean-up campaign and would like to invite more companies to join this initiative in the coming months as we strive to manage plastic waste as an industry. SCIC hopes to continue working with organisations in the chemical sector for similar collaborations in the future.
