ChemEx is an annual industry outreach initiative organised by the Singapore Chemical Industry Council (SCIC). Since 2007, the event garners 500- 800 students from various institutes of higher learning, who join the event to enhance their awareness on the chemical sector.

This year, SCIC conducted ChemEx virtually through a series of 10 webinars in the month of October. The sessions were well attended by over 500 students from 9 different institutes of higher learning and were supported by 10 different chemical companies, with each company presenting one webinar session.

The key highlight of the webinars on “What’s my role in the Chemical Industry?” showcased the sharing by presenters not only from process and operations but also from diverse career profiles on business developments, technology, logistics & supply chain, health & safety, environment & quality, talent resources and training. Their insightful experience sharing on the relevance of their academic qualifications in preparing them for their work and the skillsets required have been most valuable for the students.

The webinars have provided the students an enhanced understanding on the various careers advancement and opportunities in the chemical industry as well as broadened their knowledge on the different chemical companies in the industry.  This is evident from the questions posted and active participation of the students during the Q&A segment.

We would like to thank the following member companies for providing their support for ChemEx:

  • Air Liquide Singapore Private Limited
  • Arlanxeo Singapore Private Limited
  • Evonik Oil Additive Asia Pacific Private Limited
  • Infineum Singapore LLP
  • Mitsui Chemicals Asia Pacific Limited
  • Petrochemical Corporation of Singapore Private Limited
  • Shell Chemicals Seraya Private Limited
  • Sumitomo Chemicals Asia Private Limited
  • The Polyolefin Company (S) Private Limited

SCIC looks forward to collaborating with chemical companies for similar events in the future and continue to spread knowledge about the chemical sector to students and the public.
