The new Code of practice for long term measurement of compressed air system energy efficiency, Singapore Standard SS 664 : 2020, was launched on 3 February 2021 with more than 80 attendees at the webinar. The scope of SS 664 specifies requirements for instrumentation to capture relevant process parameters, their instrumentation, commissioning, operational monitoring and maintenance.
SS 664 was developed to close the existing gaps by establishing a standardised methodology and instrumentation requirements. As such, organisations are able to have an effective measurement and verification (M&V) system to monitor the energy performance of compressed air systems and benchmark the energy performance of such systems.
Some key points which SS 664 covers include:
- Specifying the acceptable uncertainty levels for continuous measurements for the proper efficiency rating of the compressed air system and equipment
- Specifying the parameters and performance indicators for continuous measurements
- Giving guidelines on the development of useful formats for data collection and presentation
- Using either thermal dispersion mass flow meter or Coriolis mass flow meter for compressed air flow measurement
- Long term monitoring and maintenance of compressed air systems
As compressed air systems are commonly used in industrial facilities and account for a substantial amount of energy consumed by manufacturing facilities, SS 664 enables energy savings within such facilities by establishing a system level assessment of compressed air systems.
This standard is expected to be used by operators and owners of compressed air systems, local mechanical & electrical consultants, energy services companies and suppliers and designers of compressed air systems.
