In light of the upsurge in the visibility of worldwide concerns on plastic waste issues, SCIC has been playing a proactive role in leading the industry’s efforts and initiatives towards driving greater awareness on the responsible use of plastics and the proper management of plastic waste among members of the public.

The topic of plastic waste management will continue to feature heavily in discussions around environmental sustainability. Against this backdrop, the chemical industry through SCIC has been in close engagements with the various Government Agencies in identifying synergies of collaboration in addressing this concern collectively.

SCIC initiated the “Stakeholders Round-table Discussion on Waste Management Ecosystem” on 5 March 2020. This represented a pivotal moment as we took the first step by bringing together all the stakeholders including the manufacturers, converters, waste management companies, brand owners, industry associations and government agencies. With the common goal set on co-creating a sustainable waste management ecosystem for Singapore towards supporting a circular economy approach, the session garnered valuable inputs on the gaps and challenges from the sharing and discussions by the cross-value chain partners. With SCIC taking the lead, this will translate further into in-depth discussions and action plans through the continued engagements with the cross-value chain partners. The outcomes from these efforts would be further shared and deliberated in the inaugural SCIC Sustainability Conference that has been planned in October 2020.

Stay tuned for more information.
