Through the Mutual Acceptance of Data (MAD) framework under Organisation for Economic Co-Operation and Development (OECD) GLP Working Group, Singapore’s GLP studies supporting pre-clinical testing on chemicals have been recognised internationally by more than 40 countries over the last 10 years.
The Singapore Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) Compliance Programme was launched in 2007 to recognise facilities which provide non-clinical safety testing in accordance with the Organisation for Economic Co-Operation and Development (OECD) Principles of Good Laboratory Practice. There are a total of 6 registered GLP facilities in Singapore.
The programme is administered by the Singapore Accreditation Council (SAC) under Enterprise Singapore. Besides being the GLP compliance monitoring authority, SAC is also known to many as the national accreditation body providing accreditation for conformity assessment bodies (CABs) providing testing, inspection, and certification services.
The OECD System of Mutual Acceptance of Data (MAD) for Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) is a multilateral agreement which allows participating countries to recognize the results of pre-clinical safety tests done on new chemicals. Singapore was the first non-OECD country in Asia to become a full adherent member of the OECD MAD for GLP in January 2010. This allowed data from studies conducted in registered GLP facilities in Singapore to be accepted in other adherent countries.
The Singapore GLP Compliance Programme has successfully undergone the OECD re-evaluation from 18-22 November 2019. The positive recommendation for the continuation of Singapore as full adherent member of OECD MAD has been approved by the OECD GLP Working Group at its 34th meeting in February 2020 at Sendai, Japan. The continued recognition of the Singapore GLP Compliance Programme ensures that our registered GLP facilities in Singapore continue to provide recognised non-clinical safety testing of new chemicals to support registration in overseas markets including the US and Europe. It is also a strong endorsement of our supporting infrastructure for growing our local chemical and biomedical sectors.
