PCS Pte. Ltd. celebrated its 40th anniversary and an incredible milestone of 20 years without a lost time incident (LTI) at our bi-annual Dinner and Dance event on 13 July 2024. The evening was graced by esteemed guests including Ms. Grace Fu, Minister for Sustainability and the Environment and Minister-in-charge of Trade Relations, and representatives from Ministry of Trade and Industry, Ministry of Manpower, Economic Development Board and JTC Corporation, who celebrated these significant milestones with us.
During her welcome address, Minister Grace Fu highlighted the significant contributions of the Energy & Chemicals sector, noting it contributes almost 3% to GDP and employs around 27,000 people across more than 100 companies. “PCS has been a pillar of our chemicals industry since it began operations in 1984. Starting with the first and only naphtha cracker in Southeast Asia, it now has two world-scale crackers supplying essential feedstock to companies,” Ms. Grace Fu stated.
A Legacy of Innovation and Safety
Since its inception in 1977 as a joint venture between the Singapore Government and Sumitomo Chemical, PCS has been a trailblazer in Southeast Asia's chemical industry. "Achieving 20 years without a lost time incident is an extraordinary milestone, reflecting the dedication of PCS employees and contractors in maintaining the highest safety standards," said Mr. Shibayama, Managing Director of PCS.
Commitment to Sustainability
PCS is also a strong supporter of net-zero efforts. "Our focus on plant energy efficiency has made us one of the top performers in the Solomon Benchmarking. We continue to invest in sustainability projects, with the installation of solar panels and hydro-turbines, and our Strategic Master Plan 365 highlights our proactive approach to reducing carbon emissions," Mr. Shibayama noted.
Ms. Grace Fu added, “Singapore is committed to playing our part in accelerating climate action. As decarbonisation technologies gain greater momentum, we will continue to support our Energy & Chemicals sector to enhance its resilience and sustainability.”
Looking Ahead
As PCS celebrates these significant milestones, we remain committed to pursuing growth sustainably and making PCS a place our employees can call their second home. As we look to the future, PCS remains committed to driving sustainability and innovation in the essential chemicals industry. Our efforts include:
- Enhancing our plant energy efficiency
