Asia Petrochemical Industry Conference (APIC 2019, Taipei, Taiwan)

This year’s APIC was hosted by the Petrochemical Industry Association of Taiwan (PIAT) from 16 to 17 May at Marriott Hotel Taipei with a total of 1,021 delegates, with more than 100 delegates from Singapore. The conference hosted valuable and practical discussions and was a networking platform for the development of mutual friendship from all across the world.

Day 1 Chemical Marketing seminar by various marketing consultants from IHS Markit, ICIS, Tecnon OrbiChem and S&P Global Platts

Renowned consulting companies in petrochemical industry started off the first day of the chemical marketing seminars by sharing on the present status, an outlook on the world economy, an overview of the petrochemical industry, and other major outstanding issues. etc.

With today’s hot topic being Plastic Waste issue, the various speakers drew on their professional expertise to highlight the importance in adopting an circular economy approach as a possible sustainable solution in Plastic Waste issue.

Day 2 – Opening Address by 7 Steering Countries

The Chairmen of the seven steering committee associations took to the stage on the second day to give their opening address. The keynote speaker for this year was Mr Shih Yen-Shiang, Chairman Sustainable Circular Economy Development Association and Chair Professor, Business Management of Chung Yuan Christian University. With the theme “Working Together Towards Sustainable and Responsible Petrochemical Industry”, Mr Shih shared that in light of the perceived nature of the petrochemical industry, higher emphasis needs to be placed on maintaining sustainable and responsible growth. Thereafter a panel discussion was held among various consultants from IHS Markit, ICIS, Tecnon OrbitChem and S&P Global together with Mr Shih and Mr Douglas Tong Hsu, Chairman, Far Eastern Group, who served as the panel moderator.

Farewell Party – Next Host for APIC 2020

The Chairman of PIAT presented a token to the President of CPMA, Mr Kamal P. Nanavaty as the next APIC host. APIC 2020 will be organised on 28-29 May 2020 in Mumbai, India and will be hosted by the Chemicals Petrochemicals Manufacturers' Association (CPMA).
