In today’s ever-changing business landscape, there is a need to adapt and improve the existing safety & health (S&H) management framework to help the chemical industry in managing their S&H risk and prevent work-related injury and ill health to workers.
The launch of SS 651 (Safety and health management system for the chemical industry — Requirements with guidance for use), on 22 Jan 2020, aims to achieve this aspect through the integration of SS 506 Part 3 process safety elements into SS ISO 45001 Occupational health and safety management systems — Requirements with guidance for use safety requirements. The introduction of SS 651 is intended to help bring about a positive impact on industry productivity and reliability, which will in turn translate into business advantage for our local companies.
The new standard SS 651, that will replace SS 506 Part 3, will be referenced by MOM under its Approved Code of Practice (ACOP).
